05-02-2008 Water conditions remain cool along most of the Southern California coast. Bass are active and the Halibut are still around in the shallows. I had the pleasure of jumping on the Islander, for a full day of kayak fishing at San Clemente Island recently. Good fishing, and even better weather made for another great trip. Highlight was watching Josh Rider nail his personal best Halibut on a sardine. The fish was 22 lbs and 39-1/2 inches, steady Calico fishing was had by all.
Get on one of the Islander kayak trips, they are the best opperation for this sort of trip!

04-06-2008 Malibu trophy Halibut on the chew, Mark Pierpont with a fine 37 lb California Halibut. Good for a 3rd Place finish in the 2008 MDR Halibut Derby. Nice fish are starting to move in shallow. Get out and wet a line!

03-23-2008 Spring is here, and the warming coastal waters have the fish looking for an offering! Choose the right lure and you might be rewarded like I was. A nice 24 lb. Halibut fell for a 5" #56 Fishtrap fished on 15 lb setup. You just never know when a big one will take your lure, best to be ready! TL Rhino

01-21-2008 Get out durring the winter good weather windows and the rewards can be huge! Huge Yellowtail that is! A recent trip down to La Jolla, CA. resulted in a nice 30 lb. grade of fish for one lucky angler in our group, way to go Randy! Squid in the pre-dawn was made easily using our Candy Catcher Squid Jigs. Then pin one on and send it back on a dropper loop rig, and hold on. Get out and wet a line! TL Rhino

01-09-2008 Happy New Year, now if the weather would cooperate we could get out a do a little productive fishing! Watch the post rain fishing in Southern California, most of the coastal waters are heavily polluted after big rains, so try to avoid water contact for a least a week following a big rain. Time to service your gear, change line, and get ready for the next good winter window. See you on the water in 2008. TL Rhino
